'It is possible; according to Camus, 'to separate the literature of consent, which coincides, by and large, with ancient history and the classical period from the literature of rebellion which begins in modern times: That 'possibility' has subsequently been eagerly entertained, as even a casual reading of both the critical reflections upon and the selfperceptions of literary modernity would quickly confirm.
