Style Guide

Style refers to the system of spelling, punctuation, referencing and design which is applied to an edited work. Broadly, the journal publishes under the most recent edition of the following guidelines—

• for spelling and grammar, Macquarie Dictionary
• for referencing and citations, Chicago Manual of Style
  • use footnotes without a bibliography
• for legal sources, Australian Guide to Legal Citation
• for writing by, for or about Indigenous Australians, AIATSIS Style Guide for Authors and Editors

At the end of the day, ensuring proper style is the responsibility of the Editors. We appreciate the efforts of authors and reviewers in having these requirements in mind when working with us.

The Oxford style guide New Hart's Rules provides a clear and general guide to matters of punctuation, style and capitalisation in UK/Australian English.
